This was a good post from Jared. I have been wondering what the next easiest CCIE track to take was. I’m always looking ahead however far that might be, and found that Jared made a strong argument for what I might do next , assuming I finish the R&S without getting my feelings hurt too bad. The CCDE though would be more interesting to me though. I think there are inherent design tasks in most networking jobs. Rarely (I imagine) are you handed a “design plan” CCIE R&S lab exam style, and all you have to do is get it working by configuring it. It seems that you are expected to be a one stop shop to design and configure. I struggle with questions like, “is this the best way to approach this problem?”. I think the CCDE could help me understand the correct, top down approach to network design that is required in a functional design.
Ethan over at CCIECandidate is thinking about going to for the gusto.

Nice blog you have got here. I am working on my R&S but it’s interesting how Jared made a good case for next CCIE track. It’s going to be a while before I get done with R&S. Looking at your schedule, it appears that you are planning on attempting the lab around May 2009. Is that correct?

Thanks, I’ve been reading yours and a few others for the last year. April / May I want to take the 12 Day IE bootcamp. Sometime after that I will be looking to take the exam. Haven’t quite nailed it down yet, I guess if I’m ready I could take it following the bootcamp. I don’t think I’ll even attempt it until I am killing the Mock Labs. There’s no rush.
